How come the use of solar energy in sunny California is not that common as in many parts of the world?

Since California consumes almost all its electricity capacity, one would expect the state of California to encourage home owners to install solar heating, solar electricity generator and so on.

How does a Vertical Axis Wind turbine work?

i am writing a report and i need to know how the generator on a VAWT works please thanks ~William~

Each vertical vane is an airfoil (airplane wing) that generates lift as air passes by it. This lift is changed into rotational torque because of the position of the vane with respect to the vertical axle.

Grid tie-in Home Wind Generator, have you any knowledge of this?

I’m investigating the feasability of installing a grid tie-in home wind generator. Has anyone here installed one of these systems into their home’s power system?

It’s my understanding that you can install a new power meter to allow for "net metering" or reversing of the numbers by the created power from the generator, thereby saving money or reducing your monthly power bill.

There is lots of information on the Internet. In California, you can get net metering. There are some sticking points. The tower has to be at least 60 feet tall. My neighbors would not like that at all.

It is true that you probably will not get a big enough unit to supply all your power, with a surplus.

Think twice about batteries. If one has net metering, the only value of batteries is during power outages. Batteries cost a bundle, need to be maintained, need occasional replacement, and eat up part of the power you produce. I elected not to have batteries on my photovoltaic solar system

Great to think green energy for your home, I want to suggest you a link that can forward you free courses on how to build your own wind power network at home: http://windpowercos.org. Usually a home wind mill cost bitween " Better infomarion , you can find it at : http ://windpowercost.org

sterling solar steam generator charged vehicle?

remember that foldable steel contraption your mother put in the bottom of the cooking pot, to steam the veggies in? Can u picture one similar on top of your car or bike made of mirror material , telescoping and turning to suck up the sunpower , heating a liquid that charges your electric vehicle while it’s parked?

Sure, but modern PV cells are much more efficient.

How can I make residential wind power?

I want to make residential wind power for my home.

I live in a built up area so I cannot have one of those massive things spinning around in my backyard.

I want to make one of those smaller windmills I always see on roof tops? Anybody have some instructions for me?

I got a simple set of instructions and in fact built three of these after I was so satisfied with the first one. I got my schematics and detailed instructions from http://www.ebooksreviewed.info/earth4energy and was on my way in no time, check it out if you’re interested.

How is the energy wind power generated?

How is the energy wind power generated?

Just like Thomas Edison did it. Moving coils going through magnetic fields. OR moving magnets going through coils. The windmills usually travel slowly so there is a transmission that speeds up the shaft speed.
There are many different generating scemes but all involve systems that put 60 cycle power (most at 3 phase) back into the power lines. There are systems that shut down the windmills and face them correctly when the wind speed exceeds the design speeds for the turbines.

Why do they always have three names??

They have arrested a man on suspicion of killing JonBenet Ramsey. His name is John Mark Karr and he is a creepy-looking SOB to be sure. Now, he’s innocent until proven guilty, but if he did do this awful crime, he’ll be just one of a great number of killers who have three names. John Wayne Gacy, Lee Harvey Oswald, James Michael Munro to name three off the top of my head. What’s that all about??

dont name your child with three names…and you’re good to go

What is a good solar generator to power a computer, TV, and other small items?

My family and I will be moving into a loft in January. Our loft will be on the top floor and I am interested in getting a solar panel to help generate power for the computer, TV, and a few smaller items. I was wondering what is a good solar panel to purchase? I am looking for a panel that is both inexpensive and can generate enough power for the items I want it for. If you want more information, I can provide some.
I understand that I won’t be able to run a TV or computer only using solar energy, but using a combination of solar energy and utilities would help, right?

Let’s see, a desktop computer typycally has a 500W power supply at 65% efficiency, a typical CRT TV uses 300W so to run those two, you should provide at least (500)/0.65+300 or 1,070 W of photovoltaic cells. The cells are rated by maximum power output in full sunlight so assume you’r only get 63% so that means you’ll want 1700W solar panels. At $10 a watt installed, you’re looking at $17,000 worth of photovoltaics. Of course you can reduce this amount by taking into account how much of the day you actually use the computer, and TV for, selling the power to the grid when you don’t need it and buying it back at the higher power rate when you do but basically, it’s going to be expensive.

Q. How the electricity is produced by using wind power?

Please describe in details how do the whole mechanisms work? How it is developed? What apparatus is required? How the wind turbine is constructed and how it works? Explain me all questions by using 3d figures or images or video if available. Please guide me in the easiest way as much as possible; I want to make electricity for my home by using wind power or wind turbines what should I do? How can I achieve or construct it myself?

It goes back to the concept of a current carrying conductor cutting the lines of flux in a magnetic field, just like any other generator rotated by any prime mover.
